Liberal Democrat Cllr Michael Wyatt a new member of the planning committee, and the leading member of the Hands Off Our By-Pass campaign moved an amendment to the recommendations to make sure the land being offered by the developers will be available and secured until 2031. The amendment was seconded by Conservative Councillor John Bridges. A vote was taken and Cllr Michael Wyatt's amendment was passed unanimously by the planning committee members.

Cllr Michael Wyatt said, "I am absolutely delighted to have convinced members of the planning committee, with the support of the Council Leader Richard Blunt to secure the land needed for a By-Pass. Since the Council deleted the Bardon By-Pass in their Core strategy I have been working very hard with Cllr Blunt to look at a way forward to convince the current administration to change their mind and re-instate this much needed highway infrastructure.

Approving the Bardon Grange planning application without the commitment from the developer to provide the land for the By-Pass would of been a disaster. What we have successfully achieved by working together is to give the residents of Bardon back their much needed By-Pass, which was taken out of the core strategy without proper consideration, or taking into consideration the need for a more strategic approach.

Cllr Richard Blunt Leader of the Council said, "We have found away forward, which will go someway to meet the needs of the local area. Hopefully this will allow us to move in the right direction and have a more joined up strategic approach to the highway system, which will benefit the whole area.

Cllr Wyatt and I have managed to put our politics aside and worked together to achieve a good outcome for everyone concerned. The next step will be to make sure the Core strategy includes the By-Pass / Relief Road so it gives additional strength to our argument that we need this vital link Road."
