Labour’s 13 years as the bankers’ lapdog. 2 years trying to hide it.

Manchester Liberal Democrats have today launched two new posters: one depicting Labour Party leader Ed Miliband as a poodle; and one promoting the Liberal Democrats' fairer tax campaign.

The first features an image of Ed Miliband as a poodle on a lead held by a banker, with the slogan 'Labour: 13 years as the bankers' lapdog. 2 years trying to hide it.'

The second shows how Income Tax paid by full-time minimum wage workers has nearly halved under the Liberal Democrats.

A poster van carrying both images has circled the Manchester Central convention centre, where the Labour Party's Conference is taking place, this morning. It will stop outside the Midland Hotel at approximately 16.30, following Ed Miliband's on stage question and answer session.

It will also be in Store Street at 12.30 for a photo opportunity with Liberal Democrat candidate for Manchester Central, Marc Ramsbottom.

Commenting, a Liberal Democrat spokesperson said:

"Ed Miliband's political education didn't take place at school in Primrose Hill but in the Treasury under Gordon Brown. He and Ed Balls were special advisers to Brown when they let the banks run amok and claimed to have abolished boom and bust.

"It is the poorest and the most vulnerable, those Labour claims to represent, that they let down the most in their 13 years in power.

"On their watch the gap between the richest and the poorest grew into a chasm; they hit low income workers by scrapping the 10p tax rate; and insulted pensioners with the measly 75p state pension rise.

"Liberal Democrats have cut taxes for people on low and middle incomes and lifted 2m of the poorest workers out of paying Income Tax altogether."
